Sounds of Downtown
Below are photos from rehearsal and the concert at the lovely and intimate Kirk Douglas Theatre.
The June 10, 2017, concert was dedicated to Susan Fetta, the wife of Conductor Frank Fetta. There was an additional dedication with a special, requested encore from Cello Soloist Leah Hansen who performed the Sarabande from J.S. Bach’s Suite No. 3 for Unaccompanied Cello.
It was a spirited concert,
reflecting the bright spirit of Susan.
Soloists David Costello, Trumpet, and Holly Patterson, English Horn, along with the orchestra, brought moody intensity to the “Quiet City” of Copland.
Ms. Hansen brought beautiful artistry to the Haydn Cello Concerto with a very memorable performance. Through her sterling technique she brought out the clear structures of Haydn’s concerto, and colored the moods when called upon.
The start the program’s second half was William Grant Still’s “Panamanian Dances,” replete with light steps, some deep soul, and wonderful lyricism. The effervescent brilliance of Mozart’s Symphony No. 29 closed the program and the 2016-17 Season. We hope you were part of this, and other concerts of the season. Your attendance is always appreciated and we hope we produced memorable musical events.
We move west to Burton Chace Park, Marina del Rey as the Marina del Rey Symphony for Thursday concerts July 6, July 20, August 18, 2017, all at 7:30PM.
There will be more shortly.
We hope to see you there.
